To me, this cartoon doesn’t get at the crux of the USA’s economic crisis, which is that too many of us have embraced the consumer culture — indeed, we wallow in it. Spend, spend, spend. The whole economy is based on that principle. Even the Republicans in government have come around. They still rail against the tax-and-spend Democrats, but their alternative is now “tax less, spend more.”
